Book Review: A Marriage Made In Secret by Jenni Fletcher.

If you keep up with our reviews on here, then you may already know that Jenni Fletcher is one of my favourite authors. I will read her books without any question. I had my eye on 'A Marriage Made In Secret,' for a while, but have only just got round to reading it!

The Blurb.

She must choose…

…her Queen – or love!

As the Queen’s new lady-in-waiting, Mathilde Gosselin tumbles straight into Parisian palace intrigue when she meets courtier Henry Wright, who she discovers is a spy! Mathilde’s loyalties are now divided – between this enigmatic, courageous man and her queen. And amidst the turmoil, falling for the unsuitable, illegitimate Henry means they’ve no choice but to hide their new love from the world…

My Review.

This story was exciting from start to finish and I found myself talking out lout at, and to the characters on many occasion. I didn't know who to believe and was constantly wondering if the Queen was as lovely as Mathilde thought her to be. It kept me on the edge of my couch till the very end! It also had me grateful for technology - as much as it isn't always the best thing - as the months went by I felt for the fact that Mathilde and Henry didn't get to see or communicate with each other. Can you even imagine that now?

Mathilde and Henry were a joy to read and I loved them both dearly. I felt for their predicaments and understood why they both did what they did. I got a little more anxious at Mathilde, because I just wanted her to trust and be with Henry and not give up her love and life for the Queen, especially when I was swaying towards how Henry felt about her. Something didn't sit right with me how she kept things from Matilde but I won't spoil it! It will have your guards up!

As always with Jenni Fletcher, the writing flowed effortlessly and I sunk quickly into the pages and into the story. I was fascinated by the characters and this era in history. I'm always a big fan of Jenni's notes at the end on the historical facts about where her stories come from and I am always left in awe of how she can turn events and real people into a work of fiction with so much detail - I can't even remember what eye colour I've given my characters half the time!! It truly is wonderful and I look forward to reading her next one.

If you're looking for an entertaining read that is full of mystery, intrigue and romance, be sure to pick up a copy of 'A Marriage Made In Secret,' today!!

Happy Reading!
Love,
