Book Review: Tinsel by Sibéal Pounder.

I found this book online when I was looking for something festive to read to the kids at school. There was something about the blurb that spoke to me and upon finding it in WHSmiths and reading the first couple of pages, I knew I'd found a winner!

The Blurb.

What if somewhere along the way we've all got the Santa story a bit wrong...? Join Blanche Claus and her best friend Rinki for a funny festive sleigh ride you'll never forget!
From Sibéal Pounder, bestselling author of the Witch Wars and Bad Mermaids series, this tale of friendship and mince-pie feasts is the perfect book to curl up with this winter. Funny, feminist and with a huge heart, it's a gloriously Christmassy adventure that will delight even the biggest Grinch.

My Review.

Honest to goodness this review isn't, nor does it need to be very long. Just trust me when I say that this book is a MUST READ! It's absolutely brilliant. The concept, the ideas, the descriptions, the messages, the humour, all of it, just absolutely brilliant!!

I think it's marketed for kids around 7-11 and I'd say that would be about right, maybe on the older level, but I started it with 6 and 7 year olds and while certain words or concepts might have been lost on them, the majority of them were hooked. Unfortunately we didn't get through it all before the Christmas holidays started, but from the few chapters we did read, I know a lot of them were buying it for home. Lucky for me, I got to bring it home and finish it, which didn't take me very long. I'd say that in actual fact this book is for 7 onwards, because at 32 I couldn't put it down!!

'Tinsel' is funny, utterly charming and heart-warming. The ideas that Sibéal came up with to explain certain aspects of Christmas are nothing short of genius!! This book is definitely one of those reads where you read a sentence then have to pause to stare at the wall just to take in what you've just read. It's that good!

So, if you're still feeling festive and want to hold on to those Christmas vibes for a little bit longer, or you want to get a book ready for next year then I highly, highly recommend picking up a copy of 'Tinsel.' Honestly, I cannot recommend it enough!! :)

Happy Reading!
