Blog at the Beach: Social Media Tips.

On Saturday we went to our first blogger event here in the U.K. As always we were a little anxious about getting there, meeting new people and not knowing what to expect, but we needn't have been worried at all (isn't that usually the case?) as Ice Lolly Holiday threw a great party and we met some wonderful people. We had a lovely day...and ate wood fired pizza! #Winning!

On top of games, free drinks and food, and watching England vs Sweden, there were three great speakers on the Itinerary for the day. Having never been to an event like this before, we weren't sure what we were going to get from these talks about social media, general media, Youtube and blogging; were they going to be interesting, engaging, informative? Were we going to leave feeling overwhelmed, frustrated or hopeless? The answers are yes to the former and no to the latter! Here's what we learnt:

Social Media Tips:

Sophie Mei Lan

Sophie's talk was very inspirational. She focused on how the media can help you get further in your chosen field and how the media is always looking for interesting stories that can involve you. In short, she taught us how we as bloggers, vloggers, influencers and writers can be great assets to media outlets. Main points we took from Sophie were:

  • We all have a story to tell; it doesn't have to be dramatic or sad. It can be a career change, a moment in your life, a great experience. Whatever you do, whoever you are, you have stories.
  • The media want great hooks and you can give them to them. Search for media outlets, pitch to them and get your work out there.
  • Don't be scared of using the media to help promote your brand. Just give them a good story and go for it.

Vix Meldrew

Vix was awesome. Incredibly real, down to earth and funny. Her talk was really laid back but so informative and we found ourselves nodding a long the whole time. Vix was the only person we already knew online, so it was really cool to hear what she had to say in person and meet her too! Main points we took from Vix were:

  • Be yourself and don't worry about what everyone else is doing, but at the same time, use other people who are in the same field as you, to find inspiration, to connect with others and to further your a nice way.
  • Find your three words that are the epitome of who you are and pitch them across your platforms. We think our three words are Passionate, Positive and Enthusiastic. Would you agree? What are your three words that best describe you?
  • Don't be afraid to send an email to companies. Reach out, but know that it's a two way relationship, don't just expect to receive free stuff, payments or holidays, without knowing what you have to offer in return.
Sabina Trojaneva also did an interesting talk on YouTube, we just forgot to take a picture. The biggest points from her were that it's never too late to start and don't give up because one video could change your whole life, like it did with her! :)

We had a fantastic day and are so happy that we went. Like we said earlier, we do get anxious about these things. Sometimes we end up being The Twins talking to each other in the corner, but not Saturday! We stepped out of our comfort zones, spoke to people and even asked to take pictures. We definitely look forward to going to more events like this in the future!

Thank you Ice Lolly Holiday!

Have a brilliant day!

  1. I'm so glad you had a great time, it sounded like it was an amazing day, I wish I could have gone! I definitely agree with those three words to describe your blog!
    Hels xx

    1. Aww thank you Hels! <3 We will definitely have to keep a look out for events that we can meet up at! :) xx

  2. Looks like you had a fab day, and got to learn a few new things too! I've still not been to any blogging events, but I'll break through my anxiety one day so I can do it :) Tania Michele xx

    1. Tania you will be absolutely fine. We know it's hard, we get very anxious too about meeting people and going to new places, but it is worth it in the end. We met lots of lovely people. We will have to find one to go to together, so you know you have people you know, when you get there! :) xx
