I adore Katy Colins and her 'Lonely
Hearts Travel Club' series, so I was super excited to dive back in to Georgia
Greens world to see what she was up to. I also looked forward to leaving the
confines of my apartment and travelling to a new country. Destination Thailand
had me dreaming of sandy beaches, picturing my toes in
the sea, and Destination India had me longing to experience the
buzz and culture of such an interesting, vibrant place, so I couldn't
wait to see what was in store for me in Destination Chile.
In the third installment of 'The
Lonely Hearts Travel Club' series, we are greeted by a happy Georgia, who has
recently moved in with her boyfriend and business partner, Ben. All is going
well at work, they are super busy but keeping things a float, and all seems to
be going quite dandy with their relationship. That is until Georgia
finds an engagement ring in Ben's pile of clothes. From this moment on,
Georgia's life becomes a bit of a whirlwind. One best friend informs her that
she is moving to Australia, her other best friend is getting ready to deliver a
baby, Ben is meeting up with an ex behind her back, she gets talked into
agreeing to take part in a reality TV show, she meets Ben's Dad for the first
time, which is a bit of a shock, and all this is going on while
she is freaking out about whether or not she feels ready to get married to
Ben. After all, they have only just moved in together. Confiding in
her friends, it seems that the reality TV show could be just what she needs to
figure out her feelings towards Ben. Her friends think travelling with someone
is the perfect opportunity to learn more about each other. Faced with
unpredictable situations, new surroundings and being plucked out of their
comfortable routine, what better way to test a relationship? Throw in a
challenge packed reality TV show where your team work is put to the test, and
surely Georgia will know exactly if her and Ben were made to be together at the
end?
Destination Chile was most certainly
an adventure. I love the character of Georgia Green, I could feel her emotion
throughout this book and felt like I was very much on a roller coaster with
her. There were certain points where I felt she got a little whiny and mean,
when introducing or talking about the other contestants, but I feel it was
all part of her growing up. She is learning to stand up for herself but also
know when to let go of things and leave them be. I really love that
element to these stories, that Georgia always learns something at the
end and grows as a person. Ben I just adore, he just comes across as so sweet.
We got to know more about him in this book and learn about his past, which I
really enjoyed. I love delving into the characters histories and understanding
them more. Ben's history makes him incredibly endearing and I think he is just
so cute and lovely. Through the ups and downs of this book, I have to say that
him and Georgia make for the most adorable couple and I thoroughly enjoyed, and
look forward to, all their adventures and growing together in this book and the
ones to come.
In addition, the best friends and other cast of characters in
these books are an absolute treat. Shelley and Marie are the coolest of girl
friends, I love the bond the three girls have and their interactions with each
other. Marie always makes me giggle with the way she is so matter of fact and
blunt with Georgia and Shelley always seems so positive and full of life. Even
Ben's ex girlfriend, Alice, won me over and was a nice welcome to the party, with
her confidence and girl boss kind of attitude. There is so much to love about
this book, from the way in which it makes you want to travel, to the laugh out
loud moments that you can't help nod your head at; 'Forget Orgasms, going
to the toilet after you've been holding it in, is the best feeling' YES Katy
Colins, just yes! :p From going back to Manchester and seeing your old
friends, to understanding relationship troubles and the need to fight for what
you love sometimes, I feel Destination Chile is a must read for everyone.
