Inexpensive Date Night Ideas.

With Valentines Day just around the corner we have been thinking of some fun things to do with our Husbands, that won't break the bank. As much as big romantic gestures can be nice, it can be just as lovely doing small things with maximum effort. Changing up you and your spouses routine for the night doesn't have to cost a whole lot, but it can make things fun and exciting. Moreover, doing things that you keep saying you're going to make time for, like that new board game that's been sat on your shelf since Christmas, can switch things up a bit and create new traditions. These are just little things that go a long way and you don't have to worry about expensive meals or emptying your pockets for a fancy, elaborate date.
The great thing is, these ideas aren't just for couples, if you're spending Valentines Day in with your family or girl/guy friends and you fancy doing something different, why not give these a go too ! :)

Bake or Cook together.
We have to admit that when it comes to cooking in our house it's usually a one person job. We will have food ready for our husbands after work, or they will cook while we do errands, either way we don't often find ourselves in the kitchen together. But the kitchen is the heart of the home, it's a place for passion and love, so why not try whipping up your favourite meal together or try out a new chocolate recipe for dessert. You've seen the movies...they make it look so romantic! :p

Play Board Games.
Are you the kind of person that pulls a face when someone mentions board games? We grew out of them for a while and kind of thought of them as boring. However, in recent years we have learnt just how much of a blast they can be to play. Pour yourselves a glass of wine, switch off social media and get that buzzer ready. Taboo can be so much fun to get your brain working fast and Cranium can get quite competitive when it comes to drunkenly making objects out of playdoh.

Colour in.
There really wasn't anything better when we were kids than sitting down with all the coloured pencils we could get our hands on, as we let your imagination run away with us. We didn't have a care in the world, all that mattered were the pretty patterns and colours on the page. Adult coloring books are all the rage right now, so why not give it a go. Step away from the bills and the worries and take some time to get creative together.

Go for a nice walk.
Now if you're like us, sometimes it takes the lure of a food destination to get us out of our comfy pants and out of the house, but with so many beautiful parks in our area we have been making more of an effort to get out and about purely to enjoy the scenery and appreciate what is around us. Breathing in the fresh air, watching the twinkling stars, chatting and wandering with your love, with no real destination in mind, can make for the perfect romantic and inexpensive date.

Watch an old favourite.
Does anybody else spend the majority of their evenings scrolling through Netflix looking for something to watch only to come up short and feel like you've just wasted the last half an hour merely looking? Can you and your spouse/boyfriend/girlfriend never decide on something you both like or do you always feel like you end up watching what they like and never what you like? We can answer yes to all of these. So why not plan ahead? Get blankets, get snacks, or make snacks, and each choose one of your favourite movies to snuggle up on the sofa with. Having everything prepared can make it feel more like an event, rather than just falling into a routine of just watching something because it's on.

Let us know what you guys are getting up to for Valentines Day, we'd love to hear your date night ideas!

Have a great day!

  1. I'm not a huge fan of Valentine's Day. I love my boyfriend every day.. I don't need a special day to do many great things and for the rest of the year nothing. I love this post :) nice and simple ideas to do with someone special! xx

    1. Thank you for reading Helen! :) We love changing up routine every now and again too, it's fun to do something different. Going to parks is lovely. It sounds bad but we went the other day and it was amazing to me to get a few minutes to just sit on the grass and chat to my husband. I feel like I spent so much more time as a kid playing on the grass and nowadays it's hard to remember the last time, so the other day was fun! :)

  3. Love these ideas! I was thinking of making healthy pizzas with the BF as a way to celebrate. I love going food shopping with him too, so it's even more fun finding toppings! I really like the idea of board games too. We have Star Wars Monopoly just sitting on the shelf, so I must get it out :)
    Great post!

    1. Healthy pizzas sound great Steph. It's awesome that you and Steve have so much in common, I love that you both enjoy food shopping! :) Star Wars monopoly sounds like fun, I was making Chris laugh last time we played monopoly, I swear the rules have changed, either that or we've been playing it wrong all our lives...he claimed it was the latter! :p

Thank you, glad you liked the post! :) Have a great weekend!

  4. These ideas are exactly what me and my boyfriend have planned, bake cute heart shaped cakes together, light loads of candles, snuggle in PJs and watch movies together after a nice long walk and a large drink from subway as you GET A FREE SUB haha. We're students and super poor, but when you love eachother, that's all you need to have fun.
