The Rainy City Old Boys.

I woke up one morning a few weeks back to find some pictures on Facebook that made me super happy and excited. These pictures inspired me to turn on the computer and just write, so today's post is going to be a little chatty.
I have written one or two posts in the past about Classic Cars due to our Dad having a passion for them and having grown up travelling to car shows with him most weekends. I have developed a special place for them in my heart and love writing and researching about them. Back in the seventies Dad was part of a group called 'The Rainy City Cruisers' and last year, when he was taking part in a big Car Show at Event City in Manchester, England, him and his friends decided to get the band back together to enter their cars into the show. 'The Rainy City Old Boys' was born...it's been a little while since the seventies after all!! ;p The show went really well and Dad's Cadillac actually came away with best car in the whole show, there were quite a lot of cars, so that was a big deal. I should just say on a side note that these cars are like our other brothers and sisters. We have travelled in them since we were kids, waxed them to their maximum shine and admired them as they've appeared in TV adverts. They are Dad's other children and the fact that they make him so happy, make us so happy. Therefore, when they win trophies at shows, it's very exciting for us.
A few weekends ago, he was back at Event City with 'The Rainy City Old Boys' for The Manchester Classic Car Show. Scrolling through Facebook and seeing the pictures of Dad with his friends, next to his pride and joys, just bought a huge smile to my face. I really hope they keep doing these shows so we can make it to one in future.

The group had quite a big following back in the day and it's so cool reading online about all the people who still remember and love 'The Rainy City Cruisers'. They even had memorabilia, which Dad proudly showed off at the show, I'm talking stickers, jackets, bags, you name it, they had it. How incredibly awesome is that? And how vintage and fashionable is this bag?

However, the biggest thing that made me so happy when scrolling through 'The Rainy City Cruisers' Facebook page, was coming across a photo a guy posted that I have never seen before, or if I have I don't remember. It's a photo of a man guiding an engine into Dad's 1963 Humber. Imagine just sitting at your computer checking social media as usual, when not only do you come across photos from the event above, but you also find an old picture of your GRANDAD thrown into the mix!! Yep, I'm staring at the picture of the man and the Humber (shown below) and I tell you, I could have cried. It was so cool to see people sharing pictures from the car show, but also sharing pictures they have from years ago that bring them so much joy. The fact that Dad plays a huge part in all this and I get to see his friends talking about and posting pictures from a time when I wasn't even around is just amazing. To be able to say to these people 'hey that's my Grandad, with the Car that's in our garage and has been since I was born,' is just so incredible to me.
I think what makes it so great, is the sense of friendship and the thought that these cars are bringing people together. We have always grown up hanging out with Dad's friends and have always taken an interest in going to Car Shows with him, but to see through the likes of Facebook just how much these cars are admired to this day, gives it all a whole new level of meaning. There's a sense of belonging and a fierce loyalty to the era that Dad and 'The Rainy City Cruisers' grew up in. I will always have more of a soft spot for the Classics. Seeing this club and how much it means to people and how much history it has, only makes that feeling stronger.

Are your parents part of any clubs or groups that they like to tell you about or you love hearing about? If you don't know, you should ask and maybe you can dig out old photos too! :)

Have a wonderful day!

Are we becoming American?

The other day while on the phone with my Mum, I was telling her about the fact that I had just been to the grocery store. As the words came out of my mouth I thought, 'it sounded strange saying grocery store to Mum, I never say that.'

The Best Surprise Ever!

Sunday evening, 18th September, I was getting ready to call it a night. It had been a busy day and by 8pm I was finishing up the last of the housework and ready to put my feet up, when my husband text. He asked me what kind of ice-cream I would like from the store, and if Kelly and her Chris would like any too. I immediately got excited at the sound of treats and happily curled up on my couch awaiting the return of my husband, who had been 'working'. I then received a text from my brother in law telling me to come over and hang out. My couch was pretty cozy, but when he mentioned pizza and ice-cream and that my husband had text him saying he was going to hang out at their apartment, I was up and running across the hall to prepare for family pizza and ice cream night. My dearest husband walked through the door only a few minutes later with a confused look on his face and no ice cream. He apologized saying he did not know which one I had asked for, so I explained what it looked like and off he went out the door 'to the store'. Not a minute after he had closed the door, it opened again and our little sister was standing in the doorway. Queue frantic screaming, hysteric crying and plenty of hugs. I think our hearts were beating manically while we tried to process our little sister being stood in front of us. After many more hugs, kisses and shaking our heads at our husbands, we settled down on the couch chatting away. My husband then informed me that he was hungry and actually going to go and pick up some pizza and ice cream and off he went out the door again. The next second the door opened and our brother walked in...so help us God, I flew off the couch like a bird, Kelly ran in from the kitchen and the whole apartment complex were again woken up by our shrieks. Ladies and gentlemen, it was check mate. Our amazing brother and sister indeed got us back from when we surprised them two years ago. So today we simply wanted to share with you some pictures of our amazing week. We are beyond grateful that we got to enjoy some family time and hang out with our brother and sister. It's been one day since they left and we are missing them terribly already. The countdown to Christmas is now on! :)

We had an absolute blast having Chris and Jen with us last week and can't express just how much we loved having them here. Our apartments are too quiet now. The feeling of pure happiness and joy when they walked through the door won't leave us in a hurry and we just want to say thank you again to them for making the trip and taking time out of their busy schedules to see us. Also, huge thank you's go out to our husbands for managing to keep a secret for 5 weeks and for picking them up and pulling this whole surprise off without a hitch. Love you all so much!

Happy Monday everyone. Make it a great one!

Baking collaboration with The Cupcake Chronicles.

When we came across Lindsay and Lauren, The Cupcake Chronicles, on Instagram we were immediately obsessed with their page. The most delicious looking cupcakes and mouthwatering ice cream jumped off the screen and we felt beyond inspired to head to our kitchen and whip up some such delights. In addition, we have to admit that we were very excited upon finding other twins who love cupcakes as much as we do, and who also blog. :)

Our Fall Bucket List!

Tomorrow is officially the first day of Fall and we have to say that we absolutely adore this time of year! That's probably not the first time you've heard us say that and it most definitely won't be the last. This is the time of the year where everything feels cozy and warm and all we can think about is what Pumpkin flavoured foodie treat or smelling product we are going to justify buying, because, well, do we really need a reason? We think not. However, sometimes the months fly by and suddenly we're buying peppermint candles and figuring out where we are going to put our tree and the wonderful falley things we said we would do have passed us by for another year. Therefore, after a cup of tea and a good natter, we put together a list of a few activities that we really wanted to make an effort to do this season. Today we give to you our Fall Bucket List!

1. Take some cozy fall pictures, in a fall inspired outfit.
2. Buy one fall outfit for ourselves and one for our little sister...but shhh don't tell her.
3. Sit outside while enjoying a Pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks.
4. Watch Harry Potter with the family. (Yes, even if that means via Skype)
5. Visit the Florida Pumpkin festival.
6. Have a fall milkshake from Steak n Shake.
7. Decorate our apartments with all things fall.
8. Watch a movie in just candlelight.
9. Have our friend round to make Fall inspired treats.
10. Have an evening picnic on the beach, complete with pumpkin pie and chai tea lattes.

Do you have a Fall Bucket List? If so, what's on your list?

Have an awesome day!

GET OVER IT!

Since CM Punk stepped into the octagon two weeks ago I feel I have been hearing more and more comments about the fact that it was the fake fighter going from fake wrestling to real fighting, as well as seeing/hearing the odd UFC personnel not wanting to discuss him, like he's not worthy. And do you know what? It's really pissing me off.

Have we seriously not got past this aged old statement of professional wrestling being fake yet? Have we really not let it go? The word just annoys me. I'd love to see every movie review start with 'just so you know, this movie isn't real' or 'what you are about to see isn't real, it didn't really happen.' or 'The emotion that actor just portrayed, it was all fake, he didn't really go through that.'

Professional wrestling is professional wrestling, it is what it is. It's entertainment AND athleticism all rolled into one. Love it or hate it, that's simply a fact.

CM Punk stepped into an Octagon two weeks ago and fought in an MMA fight. He DID NOT step into a wrestling ring and have a professional wrestling match with Mickey Gall. They are two completely different things and one has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the other. CM Punk trained for a year and a half in a completely new sport. He trained in a completely new territory, he had to learn all sorts of martial arts, techniques and movements that we simply don't do in a wrestling ring. He had to be prepared for absolutely anything, train his mind, focus his mental state on the idea that anything could happen. For all that I absolutely applaud him. It certainly takes some guts to become an MMA fighter and I have the utmost respect for every single fighter, as quite honestly it scares the heck out of me. No way in hell having come from a professional wrestling background would I be able to step into the Octagon tomorrow and have an MMA fight. In the same way, I don't believe an MMA fighter could step into a wrestling ring and go thirty minutes with HBK Shawn Michaels and wrestle on par with him. I imagine had it been a pro wrestling match Mickey Gall would have learnt a thing or two from CM Punk.

You see, professional wrestlers are a whole other breed. Though our wins may be predetermined and certain parts of matches choreographed, there is NOTHING fake about the physical aspect of being a pro wrestler. It bloody well hurts and not everyone can do it. There is no amount of lifting weights and doing cardio that can prepare you for being in the squared circle, you simply have to endure match after match, drill after drill, to get used to the rings, the ropes, the bumps and bruises. CM Punk is an awesome athlete, he came from a very physical background and went from pro wrestling shape to MMA shape and he did an amazing job. Yes I wish the outcome of his fight would have been different, but I have no doubt in my mind that when he fights again he will be over prepared. This time it was simply a whole new world to adapt to and it got the better of him, but that doesn't give you the right to criticize his previous profession or mock his passion for, or journey in to MMA.

So please, I ask of you, if you are a fan of wrestling, be proud, shout it from the rooftops and love it with all your heart and if you are a fan of MMA, I implore you to do the same. If you are a fan of both, then that's awesome, but please don't bash one or the other. If you don't like wrestling that's totally cool, but to those people who smirk, think they are big shots, laugh in the face of pro wrestling, call it fake and act like the wrestlers aren't athletes, you are just plain rude and obnoxious. When it comes down to it I feel it's so important to respect what other people do, so get off your high horse and try taking a hip toss from a guy who's 6ft tall and then call it fake all you want!

Have a great day!

Foodie Friday: Arroz!!!!

Here on the blog we are all about Italy and all things Italian. With our family being from the wonderful Amalfi coast, and growing up eating the best food in the world, thanks to our Nanna and Grandad, Italy has our hearts. However, we would have to say that our third favourite food, after traditional British grub of course, would have to be Spanish. As luck would have it, I married into a Puerto Rican family, so now not only do I get to enjoy my favourite foods when I go home to England, but now every family get together I go to here in Florida, I get to dig into the most scrumptious, made from scratch, Spanish food you can get your hands on. My Mom in law and Auntie's make the most amazing Spanish rice, I can devour bowls and bowls full of it, so naturally I had to learn how to make it.
After having watched my Mother in Law and Titi Millie making the rice a few times, I was determined to try it myself. No recipe sheet would be allowed, as much like my Grandad has taught me over the years, Titi Millie and Mom simply cook with love and passion. I had my fingers crossed hoping I would remember all the ingredients and make it as tasty as they make it.
Into the pan went ham, pepper, cilantro, oil, peas (or beans) and plenty of lovely Spanish seasonings.
Add tomato sauce, sofrito and a little recaito.
Let simmer and evaporate then cover with foil, place the lid on and let cook.
And...YAY!! Oh my goodness I can't tell you how excited I was when the aroma of the rice filled the room when I lifted the lid. Seeing that it had all come together the way it was supposed to made me squeal with glee. Kelly and I knew what it was supposed to taste like and were incredibly happy with how it turned out. We got the flavours and the texture down and it was delicious. However, the real test came when serving it to my husband, Chris. I knew I would score some major wife points if I was able to make one of his favourite dishes ever, so I was slightly anxious as to if I had done it justice. I needn't have worried though, I received a huge smile and plenty of hugs from Chris, which made my heart skip a beat, he loved it. I'm so thrilled that I now know how to make this incredible dish and I thank my amazing family for teaching me how to do it and passing one of their traditions on to me! :)

Have an awesome day!

The Fit Girls Wish List!

I got home from the gym the other day and felt incredibly happy and inspired. I'd had a great workout, had picked up an extra shift at work that evening and jobs were done around the apartment. I had a moment of feeling quite pleased with myself that I was doing a good job being an adult. Every now and again when I have that feeling I get the occasional urge to treat myself. Sometimes it's nice when the bills are paid, jobs are done and the apartment is clean, to reward yourself for being a successful grown up and getting through the day. Am I right? :p

Low Carb pizza...yes please!

I am an incredibly lucky wife for many reasons, one reason being that my husband is an amazing cook. As you may know, I'm rather fond of food...understatement of the year...I LOVE food and am a huge foodie. I am pretty much always thinking about food and when my next meal is. If you have been following my fitness posts, you will know that over the past few months I have been tracking my macro's. That doesn't mean to say I have been dieting or depriving myself of foods, I have just been a lot more food conscious and have been making healthier choices. Whilst tracking my macro's allowed me to have a slice of pizza here and there, that pizza and heavy dough would count for most of my daily carb in take for the day. Some days that would be fine, other's not so much, I wanted more balance, but what could I possibly eat that could replace the deliciousness of pizza?
My husband often gets spurts of inspiration where he runs over to the grocery store with a specific recipe in mind. He makes me laugh as he goes through phases, one week it's sandwiches, the next tacos, the next burritos. On this particular day it happened to be pizza. He went round the store picking up fresh Puerto Rican bread, pepperoni, cheese and tomato sauce, while I drooled and wondered what I was going to eat. It was already dinner time and I had already eaten plenty of carbs that day. When we got home I was feeling slightly hangry. I was going to have a rest day but decided to just head to the gym, to relive a little stress. When I got back I was greeted by a plate of pizza Chris had made specifically for me. Enter balance! :)
Using a low carb tortilla, turkey bacon, reduced fat cheese and a little tomato sauce, Chris had made me my very own macro friendly pizza. Let me tell you, food is most definitely the way to a women's heart because I was as giddy as can be. I devoured it within minutes and couldn't stop smiling at how thoughtful he had been. I have literally wanted pizza every day since, so Chris has been busy whipping up different concoctions! :) The first picture is a Mexican style pizza, lean ground beef with a light taco seasoning, green bell peppers, fresh tomato's and a little salsa and the one above is my light turkey bacon pizza. For this pizza in particular, the macro's were: C13/ F17/ P21 for 1 low carb tortilla, 4 slices Jennie O's turkey bacon, 1/3 cup reduced fat cheese & 1/3 cup of tomato sauce.
Chris loves a great Philly Cheesesteak and decided he wanted to make a pizza version. This pizza uses lean steak, green bell pepper, onions, a little tomato, reduced fat fiesta cheese blend and a low carb tortilla! It was awesome! :)

Who else loves BBQ? This pizza was as simple as can be to make. We diced up some chicken breast, fried it up in a pan with a drop of oil, added a tablespoon of BBQ sauce once it was cooked and gave it a good mix. Spread maybe a little less than a tablespoon of BBQ sauce on to the low carb tortilla, placed the chicken on top and into the oven it went until crisp! Be sure to pick up a light/sugar free BBQ sauce, if you are wanting to keep it as low carb as possible. There really are so many healthier options out there! :)

What's your favourite pizza topping? If you try these recipes out we would love to know in the comments below or tweet us @theblossomtwins :)

Have a lovely day!

Labor Day Weekend!

A year ago for Labor Day weekend I went to the mountains with my husbands family for their traditional Labor day weekend getaway. We stayed at The Ginsing lodge and had a wonderful time and I was very much looking forward to going back this year.

Heyyy we want some Bayley!

When I was twelve I wanted to be Jeff Hardy. When I was twenty-one, and well into my journey of becoming a professional wrestler, I wanted to be HBK Shawn Michaels. I was definitely aware of the women in wrestling and very much adored Trish Stratus and Mickie James.

Our favourite TV Show Couples!

We are suckers when it comes to romance. Books, movies, TV shows, real life, we're all about love. Having just watched the episode of The Office where Jim first tells Pam that he's in love with her, and practically melting, we thought it would be fun to share with you our favourite TV Show couples.
Chuck and Sarah!
Always and forever will Chuck and Sarah have our hearts. Their story was done so, so well. They pulled at our heartstrings with the emotional roller coaster ride they went on before finally getting together, and once they were together, well, they were just even more perfect. We loved that, compared to other TV couples, they kind of switched roles, Chuck being the more emotional talker and Sarah being the strong, independent, unemotional spy. This always made for the most hilarious conversations and interactions that never failed to make us laugh and smile. In addition, they had the cute, sweet, heart filled eyes when looking at each other, meant to be, warm, cozy feeling kind of love, that just made your heart leap when you saw them together. We still can't handle re-watching the final season and how the show ended though, it gets us every time...pass us the tissues!!!
Jim and Pam!
Is there a more adorable couple out there than Jim and Pam? We don't think so. We got into watching The Office long after the final season had aired, but with every episode we watch with our husbands we just can't get enough of how cute these two are. Jim is downright hilarious, but also so sweet and adorable when it comes to his love for Pam. As for Pam, she's just lovely. The way their story played out was one emotional ride and makes us teary no matter how many times we re-watch it. Come to think of it, before we started watching The Office we remember hearing people talking about Jim and Pam finally getting together and then when Jim proposed. It was one of those TV moments people will always remember and that's some powerful storytelling and acting right there. These two truly captured our hearts.
Devon and Ellie!
Another Chuck couple done brilliantly. We want to say they are your typical, adoring husband and wife, however this is Captain Awesome we're talking about, they are anything but your typical couple. The great thing about Ellie and Awesome is that you know they love each other and are the perfect fit, but like any normal couple they still have their fair share of problems, be it, issues with the in laws, bachelor party mistakes and baby name struggles, but they always get through it working as a team and listening to each other. One of our favourite things about their relationship, is  how protective Devon (Awesome) is over Ellie, he seriously is the cutest guy, both inside and out! Relationship goals, most definitely.
Schmidt and Cece!
We would all be lying if we said we didn't want to see Cece and Schmidt end up together. Throughout all their ups and downs and despite Schmidt's strange ways, we all knew they were perfect for each other. One of the things we love the most about them is that they know each others faults and crazy habits, they've seen each other at their worst, but despite all of that they are always drawn to each other. You get the impression with Cece being a super model that she could have anyone she wants, but the fact that you can tell from the start that she knows she has fallen for this crazy, goofy, strange man and she can't do anything about it, is utterly heartwarming. We didn't want to see Cece marry anyone else. It just wouldn't have been right.

Who are your favourite TV couples? Let us know!

Have a great day.
