Exercise? I thought you said extra fries!

So it's Monday morning and in about an hour I will be heading to the gym. Now, I am about to say a few words that I never thought I would say when talking about myself and the gym...

I am really looking forward to it!!

Yes you read that right. I am really looking forward to going to the gym and it's only taken me eleven years! That may seem odd since we cover a lot of fitness and food on this blog but I will admit that all of that is pretty much Lucy. She's chatted about Macros, her fitness journey and which protein bars and powders are the best, but I myself never really venture into that world, albeit I will taste test delicious protein bars because... food.

I will happily put my hands in the air and say that when we stopped wrestling it was such a big relief not to have to stress about the gym, to not worry about what I was eating and to just be happy and get on with my life. Even when Lucy started her fitness journey months ago, I applauded but stayed at home, still not interested. That was until about two months ago when I decided to give it a go and get moving again. I was beginning to feel a bit lethargic and wanted to feel a bit fitter, plus our husbands new work schedules meant that one of them could drop her off at the gym but she would have to walk the thirty minute walk home by herself....call it what you will but I wasn't letting that happen, so on went my gym pants and off to the gym I went.

In the last two months I have been to the gym with Lucy two to three times a week - last week four times and I have thoroughly enjoyed myself, furthermore I can actually tell a difference in my body. I spent years stressing so much that I couldn't see a difference and low and behold when I have just been going for fun, I have started to notice little things a lot quicker. I feel stronger, more energetic after a workout and happier to face the rest of the day. A lot of that I have to say is down to the gym we go to, Fitness 360 here in Clearwater. They have such friendly staff that I genuinely look forward to seeing them in the morning. They always say hi and chat and even if it's just for a few seconds it puts a smile on my face. We've also made a lot of friends there from just seeing people regularly and, again, it's so nice to see friendly faces early in the morning. I love gyms that don't feel like a big chain, I enjoy the family run atmosphere, it makes a huge difference.
As well as the gym, the staff and friends, the most important thing I wanted to share with you about my new found love for working out is that, if you are someone who hates working out because you get frustrated easily or feel uncomfortable at a gym full of people who look like they know what they are doing, you mustn't let those things stop you. YOU have to make it fun and YOU must not compare yourself to anyone. I know that's easier said than done but trust me, it works. I used to stress out so much and get mad when things hurt or I couldn't do another rep or lift a little heavier, but a few weeks ago just as I was about to get angry, a little voice in my head said 'you wanted to be here and you're here. Relax and do what you can.' And that's exactly what I did. And this is coming from me who has a twin sister next to me lifting god knows how many pounds as I stand there with 5 lb. weights and squat just the bar! At first it was a little embarrassing and  I could have easily given up but that little voice got me to me and I didn't. Over the last two months I've progressed in my own time, laughed if I'm lifting little weights compared to Luc, lay flat out on the floor after kick ass leg days and I've done it all consistently and in good fun. This has made me enjoy myself, it's made me get up and go and it's made me look at the gym in a whole new light.

I've rambled a little but I just wanted to share what I hope is a little Monday Motivation with you all. We all start somewhere and while we blog a lot about gym routines and macros, I wanted to offer another point of view for those of you like me, who might just be starting your fitness journey or who need a little bit of encouragement where the gym is concerned. If I can enjoy it then believe me when I say anyone can! :)

Have a kick ass day!
Love Kelly xx
