Labor Day Weekend!

A year ago for Labor Day weekend I went to the mountains with my husbands family for their traditional Labor day weekend getaway. We stayed at The Ginsing lodge and had a wonderful time and I was very much looking forward to going back this year.
However, to make it even more special, it turns out this time we were going to be staying at a different lodge, the very lodge in fact, that my husband and his family have been going to since he was a little boy. Last year it hadn't been available, so needless to say I couldn't wait to see it. This place is called The Wilson House and as the above picture eludes, I most certainly found my happy place. It was extremely peaceful and ever so quiet and I was lucky enough to spend plenty of time on the top of the mountain curled up with a good book. Here are some of my favourite photos we took this weekend.
As soon as we arrived, we found a cute little farmers market selling proper Virginia Maple Syrup, as well as, lots of other delicious goodies like cookies, cakes, fudge, fresh fruit and vegetables. We picked up some apple butter, fresh bread and corn on the cob!
The view from the back of the house! We were just surrounded by nature, flowers, trees and cows! There's nothing quite like fresh handpicked flowers on the breakfast table.
Sitting here with my book was pure heaven. It was so quiet apart from the odd moo, that I could have sat there for the whole day, which I practically did on Saturday, before going inside to watch Lassie for family movie time.

I'm pretty sure this was my first actual S'more on a proper fire. It was so much fun sitting in the warm glow, laughing with family and staring at the thousands of stars in the sky. I love that without the city lights, you can see the stars in all their glory. The next night we went to the Highland County Fair. We watched the tractor pull and pig derby and the sunset was beautiful.
It felt so good to get away from it all and enjoy some calm. Waking up early to walk down to the front of the garden with my cup of coffee to just sit and look out into the vast greenness was just pure bliss.
And here is my wonderful family! We had another fantastic weekend together, with memories to treasure forever. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I feel incredible blessed and lucky to have married into such an amazing family. Like my own family in England, they are funny, kind, generous, caring, supportive and definitely a little crazy, but I wouldn't change them for the world.

Hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend.
Happy Wednesday!
Love Kelly xx
